Practical guide
Use this before sharing a photo as an avatar, blog image or email attachment. The tool scales the image proportionally to your maximum width, then asks your browser to encode it as WebP. The quality slider controls lossy compression.
How to use it
- Drop a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC image, or choose a file.
- Set a maximum width and adjust quality. Around 80% is a practical starting point for photographs.
- Process the image, inspect the preview and download the result.
Example
A 3200-pixel-wide photo with a 1600-pixel limit will be about half as wide. Its final byte size still depends on image detail and the selected quality.
What to know
Output is always WebP. A lower quality setting does not guarantee a smaller file than the original, particularly for screenshots, transparent images or files already compressed efficiently. Animation is not preserved.
Common question
Why is the output still large at a low quality setting?
Pixel dimensions matter too. Try a smaller maximum width, and compare against the original before using the result.
